"This problem goes far beyond the current situation in
Iraq regardless of who thinks whom is to blame. So the
initial steps could use this crisis as the impetus for
a greater action."
We might, for example, also note that - as a result of the destruction of
the twin towers in 9/11 - a number of works of art also were destroyed.
This, in turn, gives rise to the notion of "artistic backup," a concept akin
to database backup.
We might propose, for example, that AutoCAD drawings of museum items be
established and distributed to various locations. These could be accessed
in the event that the originals were destroyed.
This would be a sorry substitute for the original, but would enable us to
some extent to recoup losses such as this.
