Hi Everyone,
I am a lowly librarian compared to most of the members apparently on the list who must work for major museums; anyway...
If I knew a war was coming I would immediately protect my collection, especially those parts of the collection that were irreplaceable. In my case, I would hide away all local history and perhaps reference items.
How much responsibility does the curator, librarian etc have in such a matter? Are disaster procedures in place? Is there a list of 'most valuable' items that must be saved before all others? Is there a repository or secret storage area for these items? Is there a ready list of volunteers to call to hide items? Are accession lists kept off property? There are probably more questions that should be considered.
All I know is yes, it is a terrible shame that some items were looted. But...better items lost than people lost and...why weren't very valuable items hidden away? thanks for listening, diana
