Crece robo arqueológico y sacro ante indiferencia de autoridades: PRI

Gran demanda por parte de coleccionistas internacionales, denuncia senadora

La senadora del PRI, Victoria Eugenia Méndez, aseguró que en México se 
registra un preocupante incremento en el índice de robo y tráfico tanto 
de piezas arqueológicas como de arte sacro, ello ante la indiferencia 
total de las autoridades culturales federales y locales.

La legisladora explicó que el tráfico ilícito de piezas arqueológicas 
virreinales, sacras y de arte en general, ha aumentado debido a la 
demanda que existe por parte de coleccionistas internacionales, así como 
por las grandes ganancias que reporta a los grupos delictivos dedicados 
a esta actividad.

"Nada menos aquí en México, en el Distrito Federal, en octubre del año 
pasado ocurrió el robo del catalejo de Julio Verne, mientras éste era 
exhibido en la biblioteca José Vasconcelos, durante la exposición de los 
Viajes Extraordinarios, la cual fue organizada para celebrar el primer 
centenario de la muerte del ilustre escritor francés", recordó.

Precisó que la principal teoría que a la fecha existe, fue que el robo 
obedeció al pedido que hiciera un coleccionista extranjero, quien al 
enterarse que la pieza se expondría en una biblioteca mexicana con poca 
seguridad, observó una buena oportunidad para apoderarse de este 
invaluable objeto.

De acuerdo con datos oficiales, dijo, el tráfico de piezas arqueológicas 
y arte sacro ocupa el tercer lugar en el crimen internacional, y después 
del narcotráfico y venta ilegal de armas.

Expuso que en algunos estados del país la situación es aún más grave y 
citó como ejemplo el caso de Puebla, donde tan sólo en los últimos 
cuatro años han sido sustraídas ilegalmente 400 obras de arte sacro.

"Esta falta de interés de las autoridades, se torna más evidente cuando 
nos enteramos de las subastas que se realizan en el extranjero de piezas 
importantes que deberían ser propiedad de nuestro país, y que sin 
embargo, son compradas en estas vendimias por otras personas, sin que 
México intente siquiera adquirirlas para recuperar el acervo cultural de 
la nación", destacó.

Mencionó que recientemente en París, Francia, fueron subastadas dos 
máscaras de Teotihuacán, elaboradas entre los años 450 y 650, "incluso 
se han presentado casos en los que se descubre que las piezas u obras de 
arte a subastar, fueron robadas y entonces cumpliendo con los tratados 
internacionales suscritos nos son devueltas, pero esto muy pocas veces 
sucede".

Propuso que el Senado de la República exhorte a las autoridades 
culturales federales, estatales y municipales del país, para que a la 
brevedad instrumenten las medidas y acciones necesarias que permitan 
proteger de manera efectiva el arte nacional, con la finalidad de evitar 
su robo, contrabando y venta ilegal en el extranjero.
