Man charged in Munch robbery

In keeping with their optimistic forecast, police announced that a man had
been charged in the theft of two Edvard Munch masterpieces, "The Scream" and
"Madonna", from the Munch Museum in Oslo last year.

Police have charged a man with the robbery of two masterpieces from the
Munch Museum in Oslo last August.

The man, in his 30s, is already in custody in connection with another
robbery and is now charged with taking part in the Munch heist as well.

"The man was charged at noon Tuesday," police lawyer Morten Hojem Ervik told
Aftenposten's Internet edition. Ervik did not wish to divulge the man's
exact age or where he was currently imprisoned.

The two Munch paintings were stolen at gunpoint by two masked men on August
22. Police believe now that they have one of the actual gunmen in custody
now.

A 37-year-old man from Østfold County was arrested on Friday and later
charged with involvement in the crime. Police think that he supplied the
getaway car, an Audi, which the pair used to leave the crime scene.

Ervik refused to answer questions relating to whether the 37-year-old had
supplied information leading to the new charges.

The new suspect will be questioned Tuesday and will have a court hearing on
Wednesday.
