Worried gallery owners fear more attacks and theft
August 11, 2005
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. Main Street Scottsdale gallery owners still worry about
their sculptures in the wake of the most recent theft on July 25th.
One or more thieves threw a softball-size rock through the window of Gallery
Elite and nabbed a bronze statue.
The "Horse Head" by Luciano, is worth 75-hundred dollars.
That means a total of six stolen sculptures from Main Street galleries since
March are worth 64-thousand dollars.
Scottsdale police say they were doing surveillance on Marshall Way near Main
Street when the July 25th theft occurred. They even heard the glass break at
the gallery.
But by the time officers arrived, the thief or thieves were gone.
One or more thieves hit the Gallery Elite May 31st, when they stole a
55-hundred dollar bronze sculpture of a nude woman.
A rock also was used on that occasion to break into the gallery.
