Nebraska California Hill marker has been stolen. This two-post marker was
located on U.S. 30, 5 miles west of Brule, Nebraska. Someone cut and broke
off the posts. This marker is a 5 foot by 6 foot, 250 pound piece of
aluminum with historical text. I would appreciate any information on the
whereabout of this marker.

The California Hill Marker
This marker is about halfway between Brule & Big Springs on Highway
30. Just to the east of the marker you can still see what is left of the
trail.....the grass is a rusty color. The proposed "Trails Museum" is to be
built south of the river across from this marker. After the pioneers
climbed this hill it was on to Windlass Hill in Ash Hollow where they let
their wagons down the cliff by ropes.
