Three jailed over stolen Rembrandt
December 29, 2005

Three men have been jailed for trying to sell a Rembrandt painting that was
stolen from a Swedish museum by armed robbers in 2000.

Baha Kadhum, 27, was sentenced to two years in jail by the Stockholm
District Court for handling stolen goods. His brother Dieya Kadhum, 24, and
Alexander Lindgren, 29, were given one-year prison terms.

A fourth suspect, Marcus Fowler, 25, was acquitted.

The four men, all Swedish citizens, were arrested in Copenhagen by Danish
police in September after allegedly trying to sell the Rembrandt
self-portrait to an undercover agent in a Copenhagen hotel.

Gunmen stole the work by the Dutch master from Stockholm's National Museum
in December 2000, along with two paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

All three paintings have since been recovered.
