Convicted art thief acquitted in jewelry store heist

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. A convicted art thief accused in a Natick jewelry store
robbery has been acquitted.

A Middlesex Superior Court jury found Myles Connor innocent of the March
heist yesterday after less than three hours of deliberations.

The 62-year-old Connor was arrested after he gave a ride to his girlfriend's
brother, who'd just taken 900 dollars worth of watches from the store.

Connor said he didn't know a robbery had been committed. His girlfriend's
brother also said Connor had no idea what was going on.

Connor has been linked to more lucrative crimes. The F-B-I suspected he was
the mastermind of the 1990 theft of 300 (m) million dollars worth of
paintings from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.

He was never charged. Later, while serving time for a different art theft,
he offered to broker the return of the art in exchange for his release from
prison.

The offer was refused.
