First Museum Management Workshop in Tehran

Iranian National Museum and the British Council in Tehran holds the First
Museum Management Workshop in Tehran.

Tehran, 19 November 2005 (CHN) - The First Museum Management Workshop is
opening in Tehran today, jointly by the Iranian National Museum and the
British Council.

The workshop is going to be inaugurated by Dr. Michael Wilson, First
Secretary Education and Director of the British Council in Tehran. The
opening ceremony of this international workshop will take place in the
presence of Mr. Esfandiar Rahim Mashaee, Vice President of the Islamic
Republic of Iran and Head of the Iranian Cultural Heritage and Tourism
Organization, and the British Ambassador of Tehran, Sir Richard Dalton.

Managers and other museum staff from across Iran, as well as participants
from Afghanistan and Pakistan will attend this educational event. Speakers
from the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museums in London, the
National Museum and Niavaran Palace in Tehran, along with others from
institutions in both the UK and Iran will present their success stories in
this workshop.
Case studies and discussions to explore issues such as interpretation,
museums and the community, museums and education, and the role of museums in
the 21st century are among the topics that will be covered in the workshop.
Included in the case studies will be the collaboration between the British
Museum and the National Museum of Iran, to create the hugely successful
"Forgotten Empire" exhibition currently on the show in London, which
includes many generous loans from the National Museum of Iran. Another case
study will look at the very successful "Children's day" hosted by Niavaran
Palace in Tehran.

Curators, directors and managers from museums around Iran and participants
from Afghanistan and Pakistan will attend this workshop. The British Council
and the National Museum of Iran hope to arrange a similar workshop in a
neighboring country next year to extend collaboration between museum staff
throughout the region. Held at the National Museum of Iran, the workshop
will end on Wednesday 23 November.
