October 23 The Iraq Museum Benefit Tour, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art,
82nd Street and 5th Avenue 10:30 am
SAFE | Saving Antiquities for Everyone presents last SAFE Tour of the year
to benefit the rebuilding of the Iraq Museum. It will be led by Dr. Oscar
Muscarella who has been involved in the study of Ancient Near Eastern art
and archaeology for decades. Author of "The Lie Became Great" and numerous
other publications, Dr. Muscarella has extensive excavation experience in
Turkey and Iran and has long been involved in plunder and forgery issues.
He will lead a group through the Ancient Near Eastern Galleries and provide
an insider view of the collections, describing how pieces are legitimately
and illegitimately acquired.
Fee: $30, $24 for SAFE members, $10 for students with valid ID. Proceeds
will be donated to Iraq¹s State Board of Antiquities and Heritage, for the
