Dear delegate,
To fit in with the valuable working time of the art world, AXA Art has
rescheduled its two-day conference, investigating various aspects of art
crime, into a single longer day. The Rogues Gallery: An Investigation Into
Art Theft conference will take place on 1st November at the BP lecture
theatre of the British Museum, and will start promptly at 10am, finishing at
6.30pm. A drinks party will be hosted in the Great Court Restaurant from
6.30pm - 8.30pm and delegates are invited to stay and enjoy time to chat
about the issues raised in the day's talks and the opportunity to meeting
new and old contacts.
As originally planned for the two day conference, speakers will include
Deborah Gage, art dealer and non-executive director of AXA Art, Dr Simon
Mackenzie, Dept of Criminology, Keele University, Sandy Nairne, Director,
National Portrait Gallery, London, Ton Cremers, Director of the Museum
Security Network, Dick Ellis, art crime investigator, Jonathan Wood, Clyde &
Co., Mike Ferguson, Deputy Director of Operations, Art Gallery of Ontario,
Canada, Mark Dalrymple, Tyler & Co., Bob Child, Head of Conservation,
National Museums and Galleries of Wales, and Tom Flynn, Journalist; who will
be talking about topics such as Art thefts through history, criminal and
victim profiles in art theft, investigating stolen art, The law and practice
of rewards to recover stolen art, the damage to works of art by an
uncontrolled environment, and the media dilemma over stolen art.
A full delegate pack containing the papers and refreshments throughout the
day are included in the price.
The revised one-day cost is:
£140 full delegate rate
£100 museum/charity/student rate
The optional drinks party is priced at £18.
