 SALE OF STOLEN PROPERTY: HOME ARRESTS FOR PRIEST IN LUCCA

(AGI) - Lucca, Italy, Sept.16 - The Carabinieri of Lucca, following an
arrest warrant issued by Chief Attorney Giuseppe Quattrocchi, arrested mons.
Giuseppe Ghilarducci, aged 70, director of the Archive of Lucca's Cathedral
Museum. He was granted home arrests, charged with receiving and selling of
stolen property, namely kneeling stool, chalices, altar cloths etc. The
origin of most of the items is yet to be ascertained. Two chalices were
stolen in Rome and Terni, a small marble altar in Naples, and a 15th century
canvas by Giovanni Marracci from the Gello Church in Pescaglia.
Mons.Ghilarducci, when interrogated, said he is an art lover, and bought the
items in good faith. Investigations are underway. (AGI) -
